Yogyakarta, on Friday September 14, 2018 a seminar on dissertation research result from Faisal entitled “Pragmatization of Migrant Cultural Values in Papua (Study of Muslim Existence in Jayapura Regency) “was conducted. The Seminar was located at the Tutorial Room, 1st Floor of Graduate Building, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.
Faisal explained that Muslim migrants use the strategy of economic, political and religious strengthening in maintaining their existence in Papua. Economic strengthening is carried out by forming a basis for regional economic resilience. Migrants see the opportunities that exist and can mobilize as much capital as a group so that they can develop various economic sectors in Jayapura Regency. In the political field, Muslim migrants attempt to place their representatives in both the legislature and the executive. This is a form of social relations from migrants to be able to voice their aspirations.
He added that Islamic organizations are increasingly important in the Special Autonomy era to maintain their identity and existence. Strengthening identity is carried out through the development of various Islamic education foundations in strengthening people’s religious knowledge. The existence of an education foundation can support the fulfillment of the education of the Jayapura district community when it cannot be fulfilled in public education institutions.
The Examiners of the seminar are Prof. Dr. Achmad Nurmandi, M.Sc., Dr. Zuly Qodir, M.Si., Dr. Muhammad Azhar, M.A., and Dr. Hasse J, M.A (Chairman). This seminar was opened for students who want to attend it. At the end of the session, the Examiners provided questions, suggestions and criticisms on the technical material, methodology and substance of the dissertation and Faisal has to revise her dissertation based on these suggestions.
