In order to strengthen the relationship and synergy between alumni and university, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY)’s Graduates hosted an alumni meetup event themed “Postgraduates Strong, UMY Worldly” on Saturday (27/7) in UMY Central Campus’ Kasman Singodimedjo building. This meetup was attended by more than 100 graduates and postgraduates of UMY, with some of them attending during leave from their studies abroad. The event was intended not only to strengthen the relationship between alumni but also to help create an organization for alumni of UMY.

Furthermore, this meetup event was also used as a forum for suggestions from the alumni regarding how to help graduates of UMY reconstruct their knowledge. Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, M.P as the rector of UMY explained that the meetup event is a great start for alumni to contribute to graduates of UMY. “Graduates are trusted to reconstruct knowledge, not only how to know them, but also how to choose what should be reconstructed,” Gunawan explained.

The Director of UMY’s Graduate division, Sri Atmaja P.Rosyidi, S.T., M.Sc.Eng., P.HD., PE explained that the alumni meetup is a good start to start building relationships and synergy between the campus and alumni. “Alumni are the leading figures to creating knowledge curriculum. The profile they give shows the quality of the final product of knowledge. Therefore, it is important to build synergy and collaborate with their alma mater. In addition, input, innovative suggestions, and other contributions from the alumni are also important to create better graduates of UMY,” Sri explained. (sofia)
