Closed Defense: Rasdha Diana

Yogyakarta, on Friday September 14, 2018 the close defense for Rasdha Diana, a student of Political Islam titled “Political Institutionalization of The State of Al-Mawardi” was conducted. The close defense was in Study Hall Room, 1st Floor of Graduate Building, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.
Rashda explained that First, a). There is no dichotomy between political and religious leaders in al-Mawardi’s political perspective, b). The state theory of al-Mawardi; which consists of theory of an institutionalization of modern state and theory of social contract has accommodates the reality and practice of politic in his age. Al-Mawardi’s theory of institutionalization of modern state established his political theory realistically and it contributed to the development of government in the age of ‘Abbasid.’ Furthermore, his concept is genuinely relevant to an advancement of modern state institutionalization; in the context of state administration including both administrations of government and nation. Second, the head of state election process  (or president) in al-Mawardi’s version occurred obliquely through the representative council. The duty of this institutions is inseparable from the leader agency and play its crucial role in government as an authority legalizing the duty of the leader of the state itself. Third, this research approved the relevance of the process of Indonesia leader election in al-Mawardi’s perspective as well. In the period of old order, the election process was coming through the forum of BPUPKI and not directly done by Indonesian people. Later in the age of New order, president Soeharto as the former president chose B.J. Habibie as a new president as his successor directly when he was deposed. Pancasila as a social contract and an ideology of state of Indonesia embraces approved norms conforming the groud of social and statehood life in Indonesia. Pancasila is another hand displays the practical form of social and statehood contract when someone is elected to be the leader of state of Indonesia, people are demanded to obey him as long as he does not contravene the teaching of Islam. In conclusion, al-Mawardi has presented the crucial instruments of state with religious values as an ethical guide of politic to implement a dignified sovereignty.
