Researching Public Service Motivation, Dian Suluh Performs a Closed Dissertation Examination

The level of education and income proved to significantly strengthen the influence of social background on public service motivation, especially in the Philippines. In Malaysia and the Philippines, the value of religiosity significantly influences public service motivation (PSM) without the intervention of mediatory variables. This shows that in Malaysia and the Philippines, the variable of religiosity is influential in encouraging public service motivation.
As stated by Dian Suluh Kusuma Dewi in the Closed Dissertation Examination held by the Political Doctoral Program in Islam-Political Science, Saturday (7/3) in the Study Room of the Postgraduate Study Room, Lt. 1 UMY Campus. Dian explained her dissertation entitled “The Influence of Social Background, Religious Values and Voluntary Activities on Public Service Motivation (Comparative Study of Determinants of Motivation of Public Services in 4 ASEAN Countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines) before the examiners.
Dian explained that the encouragement of religious values qualitatively shows that although Malaysia is a multicultural and multi-religious country, the amount of Islam (as the majority religion) is embedded as a code of ethics for each ASN in public service offices. In contrast to the Philippines, although the item analysis shows that the level of professionalism is higher and qualitatively implies the building of the value of religiosity is driven by the socialization of parents and political affiliation.
He added ASN in Indonesia is in some ways willing to sacrifice and like to help others by taking risks. Also, charitable activities are very often carried out, not only done for victims of natural disasters but also giving money voluntarily and routinely to the poor.
This final examination presented a team of examiners including, Prof. Dr Achmad Nurmandi, M.Sc., Dr Dyah Mutiarin, M.Sc., Dr Mega Hidayati, M.A., Dr Zuly Qodir, M.Ag., Prof. Dr Syamsul Arifin, M.Sc., Dr Ulung Pribadi, M.Sc., and Dr Hasse J., M.A (Chairperson).
